Wall-to-Wall Studios Designs Visual Identity & Branding for The Center for New Work at Carnegie Mellon School of Drama

The Center for New Work at Carnegie Mellon University is a collaborative hub within the School of Drama that advances the creation and development of innovative theatrical projects. It brings together students, professional artists, and regional partners to support new plays, workshops, readings, and productions, strengthening connections between higher education and the broader performing arts community in Pittsburgh and beyond. Funded by the Richard King Mellon Foundation and local cultural institutions, the center aims to cultivate a vibrant ecosystem for the future of live performance.
Continuing the ongoing collaboration with the School of Drama, W|W designed the visual identity and branding in support of the Center for New Work’s public launch. W|W’s creative approach for the smart, quietly theatrical mark was to include some subtle graphic references to the Center for New Work’s mission and focus. Starting with a nod to black box theatre, a theatrical performance space, the logo then introduces the white shape that references a page being turned or a curtain being pulled back, collectively signaling new work as a process, not necessarily an end product. With the logo’s shape angles being upward and inward, the mark has a sense of movement and progression. Ultimately, the Center for New Work is the place where ideas are revealed, shaped, and brought into the world through collaboration and creative risk, and the logo visually supports that narrative, helping to position the Center to thrive.
