Wall-to-Wall Studios Produces Videos For SC11 Conference

Wall-to-Wall Studios designed and produced multiple videos for SC11, the preeminent conference dedicated to supercomputing. SC11 was hosted by the great city of Seattle, WA in November 2011, and continues a long and successful tradition of engaging the international community in high performance computing, networking, storage and analysis, and for 2011 placed an emphasis on bringing together communities to facilitate information exchange, discussions and new collaborations for research and education related to innovating high performance computing applications and advancing scientific discovery and scholarship. The opening video produced by Wall-to-Wall Studios, There's Something in the Air, provided an overview of conference's key components. The other videos produced by W|W included a :30 edit of There's Something in the Air that was used for promotional purposes, and an Exit Video used to help attendees navigate the conference after the keynote address by Jen-Hsun Huang, co-founder of NVIDIA. In addition to providing concept and design, Wall-to-Wall Studios also handled all editing, animation, motion graphics, titles and some filming.

Wall-to-Wall Studios Designs 2011 Annual Report for Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center

For the eleventh consecutive year, the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center commissioned W|W to design its Annual Report, Projects in Scientific Computing. The Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center is a joint effort of Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh together with Westinghouse Electric Company advancing the state-of-the-art in high-performance computing, communications and informatics and offers a flexible environment for solving the largest and most challenging problems in computational science. The Annual Report makes its debut at the SC11 Conference in Seattle, WA, which also features several videos by Wall-to-Wall Studios.

Congratulations to Wall-to-Wall Studios very own Dr. Science, Mr. Scott Werner and his small gaggle of geeks for being selected as one of five finalists for the 2011 Virgina Tech Manufacturing Innovation Competition. Their entry, a surge protector that communicates per outlet power usage to a web site, enables people to monitor their power usage and power costs on a per device basis and also turn the power on or off remotely. Can't find that at your local Home Depot...yet

Wall-to-Wall Studios designed and produced a television advertising campaign titled Feel Good for The Hawaii Primary Care Assocation (HPCA) that reinforces the organization's commitment to its clients that they feel good. HPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering primary health care—basic medical, dental and behavioral health, and health education services—for all Hawai‘i residents, and the TV campaign is a continuation of the integrated marketing and branding collaboration (logo/identity, corporate stationery system, website and more.)

Founded in 1845, Baldwin-Wallace is a comprehensive college that combines the strengths of its liberal arts heritage with opportunities for career preparation & pre-professional training. Tree Pittsburgh is an environmental non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the City's vitality by restoring and protecting City trees.

Happy 19th Birthday To Us.

On Oct 16, 1992, James Nesbitt drove his slightly rusty Volvo down from Boston (filled with artwork, art supplies, a fax machine and dirty laundry) arriving at the doorstep of Bernard Uy's tiny apartment on Walnut Street in Pittsburgh (filled with cheap furniture, Mac IIci + 13" color monitor, coin-op laundry machine) to launch a partnership that was a mash-up of fine art and communication design.

 

 

About 10 days later, we chose a name for this startup. Our very first self-promo postcard was designed to (a) be cheap to produce, (b) amuse ourselves, (c) make best use of the labcoats we had just purchased for important meetings, and (d) was pretty much inspired by this.

 

Some trivia for those of you who are still reading this:

W|W's first paying client: Pittsburgh Dance Council.
First assignment: Mikhail Baryshnikov & Twyla Tharp at the Benedum Center.
Budget for design + illustration: +$500
B&W (300dpi) laser printer: –$1000
Art supplies: –$30
Groceries & toilet paper: –$50
Starting a business to earn less than minimum wage: Priceless.


Nineteen years, many clients and two office locations later, I'm still proud to say that this has all been made possible because James thought it would be a cool idea.

Wall-to-Wall Studios designed the exhibit branding and promotional campaign for M is for Museum, a new interactive exhibit for children & families at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. The self curated/designed exhibit is an exciting journey into the behind-the-scenes world of amazing museum objects and the scientists who collect, care for, and study them. Designed for kids 5 to 13 years old—but enjoyable for visitors of all ages—M is for Museum features multimedia and hands-on activities that help curious young audiences discover how museums protect, explore, and explain the cultures of the world and nature in all its wonder. The exhibit branding embraces the new identity system designed by Wall-to-Wall Studios for the Carnegie Museum of Natural History (and the Carnegie Museum of Art).

Wall-to-Wall Studios Designs Integrated Marketing Campaign For Faberge At The Frick

Wall-to-Wall Studios continued its branding collaboration with the Frick Art & Historical Center (aka The Frick Pittsburgh) via the design of the integrated marketing campaign for the upcoming exhibition, Faberge at The Frick. "Faberge: The Hodges Family Collection" comprises more than 100 objects made by the legendary House of Faberge, goldsmith and jeweler to the Russian court. In addition to all of the promotional materials (logo, save-the-date, invitation, signage, website, advertising), W|W also designed the exhibit microsite, www.FabergeAtTheFrick.org.

Wall-to-Wall Studios Launches Mobile Optimized Website For Burgatory & 2nd Location at Consol Energy Center

Wall-to-Wall Studios designed and developed the website for Burgatory, a restaurant in Pittsburgh that features helluva burgers and heavenly shakes. In addition to creating the visual branding (logo, taglines), W|W also designed the on-site collateral (menus, gift cards, to go packaging), environmental and decor elements (signage, wayfinding) and merchandising. The website was developed using Wordpress and integrated the use of Responsive Design to optimize the user experience for desktop/laptop, mobile devices and iPad/tablet. The Responsive Design website approach responds to the user’s behavior and environment based on screen size, platform and orientation by using a mix of flexible grids and layouts, images and an intelligent use of CSS media queries. As the user switches from their laptop to iPhone (or other mobile device), the website automatically switches to accommodate for resolution, image size and scripting abilities. For the Burgatory (burger and shake stand) at the Consol Energy Center, home of the Pittsburgh Penguins, W|W designed all environmental, signage and decor components.

Wall-to-Wall Studios designed and produced a new television advertisement for Chaminade University of Honolulu, a private coeducational institution in Honolulu, Hawai'i. The advertisement, titled Think Justice, promotes the University's focus on it's Criminal Justice & Criminology programs in the Division of Behavioral Sciences. Wall-to-Wall Studios developed the strategy, concept, script, and executed all motion graphics, animation and editing.

The Campaign for SUNY Geneseo, Shaping Lives of Purpose, is focused on preserving what the college has meant to generations of students and helping SUNY Geneseo achieve its highest potential. Wall-to-Wall Studios created the promotional design (logo/identity, marketing materials) for HomeFrontLine at the Silver Eye Center for PhotographyHomeFrontLine explores the far-reaching effects of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan—both on and away from the combat zones—on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of September 11, 2001, and examines the ways in which photography shapes our perceptions of conflict and its consequences. The exhibition features images and multimedia projects by eleven leading documentary photographers and photojournalists. Curated by Leo Hsu and Ellen Fleurov.
