Trust-Franklin Press Design Series: "I Laughed, I Cried, I Remembered". Humor, Emotion & Wit In Branding

April 30, 2012

Almost all of us are subjected to advertising, branding and marketing messages on a daily basis, whether we want it or not. Most say this type of messaging is annoying noise that clutters our lives, and much of it ends up being forgettable.

Consumers are able to tune out a “hard sell” message and ignore or skip it completely. However, making an emotional connection can often have the opposite effect: A consumer may choose to remember the brand or messaging, because it perhaps was unexpected, made them laugh, or even made them cry.

Laugh, cry, and network, this Wednesday, May 2nd with Wall-to-Wall Studios partner and creative director Larkin Werner as he presents at Trust-Franklin's Creativity Seminar Series.

Wall-to-Wall Studios Launches Responsive Design Recruitment Website for Chaminade University

April 20, 2012

Wall-to-Wall Studios designed and developed a new website,, for Chaminade University of Honolulu. Founded in 1955, Chaminade University is a private coeducational institution in Honolulu, Hawai'i. The recruitment focused website is an example of the school's continued migration of its traditionally printed admissions viewbook to the internet. The website integrates the use of Responsive Design to optimize the user experience for desktop/laptop, mobile devices and iPad/tablet.

The Responsive Design website approach responds to the user’s behavior and environment based on screen size, platform and orientation by using a mix of flexible grids and layouts, images and an intelligent use of CSS media queries. As the user switches from their laptop to iPhone (or other mobile device), the website automatically switches to accommodate for resolution, image size and scripting abilities. W|W produced the testimonial videos and integrated social media channels, including a custom Google map, into the website.

What are the Pele Awards and why do they matter? Does winning advertising awards help to attract more business? Can Hawaii's creative work be recognized outside of the state? Do advertising agencies do a good job of advertising their own services? What do we need to do as an industry to raise the bar? Do I have time to listen through an HOUR of this? (Luckily, the answer to the last question is "no", as the broadcast gets abruptly cut off.)

Wall-to-Wall Studios Designs Website for Be My Voice Hawai'i

April 18, 2012

Wall-to-Wall Studios designed the website for Be My Voice! Hawai‘i, a collaborative, public-will building campaign, whose mission is to raise support around early childhood education, family strengthening and health services. The campaign was launched at the October 2010 Governor’s Forum to raise awareness of the devastating affects cuts to family strengthening and early education programs have on Hawai‘i’s future.  The interactive design effort by Wall-to-Wall Studios for Be My Voice! Hawai'i is the first in a series of planned creative collaborations between the two organizations.  As part of this website redesign, Wall-to-Wall Studios also executed a logo refinement, and developed the illustration work throughout.

Wall-to-Wall Studios Launches CFL Ad Campaign for Hawaii Energy

March 19, 2012

If you're waiting for your old fashioned energy-sucking light bulbs to burn out before replacing them with energy-efficient CFL bulbs, don't wait. CFLs are so efficient, you'll actually save more money by switching your old bulbs out NOW. (Even if they are not burned out.) Wall-to-Wall Studios developed an integrated advertising campaign (including print, radio, online and this series of TV commercials) for Hawaii Energy that promote the benefits of switching to energy-saving compact fluorescent lights (CFLs). Residents are encouraged to take the Three CFL Challenge and replace a minimum of three more old-fashioned incandescent light bulls with CFLs. The online campaign also includes an interactive online savings calculator to illustrate the actual savings in real time (and real dollars). Hawaii Energy is the state energy conservation and efficiency program implemented to help reduce Hawaii's dependence on foreign oil. Wall-to-Wall Studios collaborated with Director Brett Wagner on both commercials.

February 20, 2012

The Hawaii Community Foundation (HCF) announced that it will sponsor two public talks in Honolulu featuring His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet. The talks are part of the Dalai Lama's three-day stay on O'ahu (April 14-16, 2012), where he will participate in a series of conversations with local leaders and visits to important cultural and historical sites.

The Dalai Lama is visiting O'ahu at the invitation of Pierre and Pam Omidyar. Support is being provided by a lead grant from the Omidyar Ohana Fund in addition to other partners. The Dalai Lama's visit marks the launch of a new HCF initiative entitled "Pillars of Peace Hawai'i: Building Peace on a Foundation of Aloha." The program aims to bring global peace leaders to Hawai'i to exchange ideas about the many forms of peace that exist here at home in Hawaii, and around the world.

"Peace is an active state of being-it is not passive," said Pierre Omidyar. "We hope that the Dalai Lama's visit will inspire people to consciously embrace compassion and apply peace in their everyday lives."

The HCF has chosen Wall-to-Wall Studios to develop the branding, website and integrated marketing campaign for the ongoing Hawaii Peace Initiative in addition to the Dalai Lama's event in April. Tickets for the events can be purchased online starting February 22nd at 6:00 p.m. HST. Additional ticket and event information is available at For those unable to attend in person, both events will be available for playback after the events conclude on the Pillars of Peace Hawaii website.
