Wall-to-Wall Studios Wins 10 Awards (and 3 Best In Show) at AIGA Honolulu's Hawaii 5-O Design Show

The Battleship Missouri is the site of the end of World War II. Today the Missouri is docked at Ford Island, Oahu, where it serves as a museum and an epic venue for military and civilian events. On October 26, 2013, the AIGA Honolulu Chapter hosted its bi-annual "Hawaii 5-O" Design Awards event at this historic site, honoring the best of the State's graphic design (including corporate identity, print, web, packaging and motion graphics).

 

Wall-to-Wall Studios was honored with ten of the fifty awards that night, including 3 of the top 5 "Best In Show" Awards chosen by the Design Judges (Joseph Duffy of Duffy & Partners, design writer Alissa Walker and Josh Kenyon of Jolby and Friends).

Wall-to-Wall Studios Designs Recruitment Collateral for Waynesburg University

Wall-to-Wall Studios was hired by Waynesburg University, a private, comprehensive Christian institution in Southwestern PA, to redesign its suite of recruitment collateral to develop compelling communication devices that would better speak to Waynesburg’s unique target audience. While demonstrating the modern and innovative nature of a Waynesburg education, the marketing collateral also needed to convey the University’s commitment to tradition and faith. By utilizing fresh photography, candid student-life imagery and messaging engineered to resonate with high school seniors seeking faith-based higher education, the updated recruitment pieces elevate the Waynesburg University value proposition to prospective students. The collaboration included the design and development of the viewbook, junior viewbook, travel and search pieces.

As part of AIGA Honolulu's Design Week events, the Honolulu office of Wall-to-Wall Studios will be opening our doors to the public tonight from 5:30 - 7:30pm. Wall-to-Wall Studios designed the Health Care Reform. Simplified website (www.YourHealthCareSimplified.org) for and promotional video UPMC (the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) to help provide clarity about the new health care law (i.e. Obamacare) to its constituents in western Pennsylvania as well as for anyone seeking information elsewhere in the United States. The responsively designed website was developed with the WordPress content management system and incorporates several custom user interface pathways to help communicate the facts about the law, their impact to different audiences, implementation timetable and resources. UPMC is one of the leading nonprofit healthcare providers in the United States and UPMC is a health insurance plan, serving more than 1.6 million members.

Wall-to-Wall Studios designed the integrated branding & marketing campaign for the 2013 Pittsburgh International Festival of Firsts, produced by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, the transformative force behind quality performing and visual arts in the region. The design effort by W|W included: logo, motion graphic animations, advertising, website design, microsite design & development, print collateral, merchandising, duck promotional campaign and more.

 

The Pittsburgh International Festival of Firsts offers an eclectic mix of theater, dance, music and visual arts handpicked from around the world. The Festival’s artists, in some way, redefine what is meant by “contemporary” in today’s culture, creating a unique platform to explore that question and engage Pittsburgh audiences in an active dialogue. This is a rare opportunity to experience performance and visual arts that will ignite a range of reactions and emotions.

To launch the 2013 Pittsburgh International Festival of Firsts a 40-foot rubber duck will float down the Allegheny River. The rubber duck has been spreading joy around the world while on display in Amsterdam, Belgium, Osaka, Sydney, Sao Paulo and Hong Kong, and arrives in the U.S. to conquer hearts for the first time at the Pittsburgh International Festival of Firsts.

Wall-to-Wall Studios Designs Integrated Marketing Campaign for Bike Pittsburgh

Wall-to-Wall Studios created, Drive With Care, an integrated marketing campaign for Bike Pittsburghthe non-profit advocacy organization that is transforming the streets and communities into vibrant, healthy places by making them safe and accessible for everyone to bike and walk. This advocacy campaign is a testament to the organization's success and impact since its founding in 2002, such that Pittsburgh has matured into a top cycling city in America and number of bicyclists on the streets has grown exponentially. By utilizing real people (that are also avid cyclists), the campaign helps humanize bicyclists. This integrated campaign is a continuation of the creative collaboration that began with W|W designing Bike Pgh's formative branding (logo, identity system) and the iconic Three Rivers Bike Racks seen throughout Pittsburgh. Wall-to-Wall Studios Designs LaunchPGH.com for the URA

Wall-to-Wall Studios created the name, identity & branding and designed & developed the website for www.LaunchPGH.com, an interactive environment designed to connect entrepreneurs with opportunities and serve as a “launchpad” for local and new businesses. The site, commissioned by the URA (Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh), is a "one-stop shop" for entrepreneurs, investors, developers and job seekers with links to the best business and networking resources that can help them get their business off the ground, events for entrepreneurs and information about venture capitalists who might be interested in investing in their company.

 

The LaunchPGH website was developed using the WordPress custom content management system, and integrated the use of Responsive Design to optimize the user experience for desktop/laptop, mobile devices and iPad/tablet. The Responsive Design website approach responds to the user’s behavior and environment based on screen size, platform and orientation by using a mix of flexible grids and layouts, images and an intelligent use of CSS media queries. As the user switches from their laptop to iPad, the website automatically switches to accommodate for resolution, image size and scripting abilities. Wall-to-Wall Studios Launches FreshGrass Music Festival Website

Wall-to-Wall Studios designed & developed the new website for FreshGrass, a bluegrass-focused music festival that takes place September 20-22, 2013 in North Adams, MA.  FreshGrass is co-produced by Manitou Media, is hosted by MASS MoCA (Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art) and features both traditional and cutting-edge bluegrass in a family friendly environment. The website is powered by the W|W CMS, a custom ruby on rails content management system. Unique features in the website include the social media aggregrator, the music player, the news module and FreshTracks, a custom GoogleMaps API web app that tracks FreshGrass band tour dates across the country.

The National ADDY Awards is the advertising industry's largest and most representative competition, attracting over 50,000 entries every year in local ADDY competitions. The mission of the ADDY competition is to recognize and reward creative excellence in the art of advertising. Wall-to-Wall Studios executed an integrated rebranding for Social Venture Partners (SVP), a network of engaged philanthropists that have a postive impact on their communities with innovative strategies to address complex social issues. W|W designed the global non-profit organization's new logo and identity system that was accompanied by a comprehensive, yet flexible, brand toolkit that ensures consistency across the network. Subsequently, W|W designed a suite of print marketing material templates (Impact Report, Recruitment Kit, PPT) and a motion graphic animation that are all being utilized to increase the organization's reach and impact.

Breadshop Identity by Wall-to-Wall Studios wins Brand New Award

Congratulations to our client Breadshop, whose corporate identity system won a spot in this year's Brand New Awards. 714 entries were submitted and 75 winners were announced last week. Here's what the organizers themselves had to say about it:

 

"Just when you think judges can’t get any tougher, they do. And this crop of judges proved especially hard to please. Unimpressed by recycling of styles or great visuals that didn’t match the client, they all looked for something unexpected, surprising, and/or meaningful. Perhaps when we asked the judges to be tough we didn’t expect them to select the lowest amount of entries yet in our three-year run, despite there being almost 200 entries more than the first year when the judges at the time selected 90 entries. But one rule we have is that there is no minimum quota of projects we need to include. Whatever bubbles to the top makes it. Simple as that."

 

We're proud of our collaboration with Breadshop founder Christopher Sy, and apparently lots of other folks in Hawaii are fond of his work too.
