Breadshop Identity by Wall-to-Wall Studios wins Brand New Award

March 29, 2013

Congratulations to our client Breadshop, whose corporate identity system won a spot in this year's Brand New Awards. 714 entries were submitted and 75 winners were announced last week. Here's what the organizers themselves had to say about it:

"Just when you think judges can’t get any tougher, they do. And this crop of judges proved especially hard to please. Unimpressed by recycling of styles or great visuals that didn’t match the client, they all looked for something unexpected, surprising, and/or meaningful. Perhaps when we asked the judges to be tough we didn’t expect them to select the lowest amount of entries yet in our three-year run, despite there being almost 200 entries more than the first year when the judges at the time selected 90 entries. But one rule we have is that there is no minimum quota of projects we need to include. Whatever bubbles to the top makes it. Simple as that."

We're proud of our collaboration with Breadshop founder Christopher Sy, and apparently lots of other folks in Hawaii are fond of his work too.

Honolulu Magazine: "Best Bread in Honolulu" (Dec 2012)

Honolulu Magazine: "The best country bread you've never heard of: Chris Sy's levain" (Oct 2012)

See You At The Pittsburgh Addy Awards Show Tonight.

March 1, 2013

Wall-to-Wall Studios will be represented at the Pittsburgh American Advertising Awards show tonight at the Carnegie Science Center, both in the audience and during the category announcements. The 2012-2013 Addys bring together the local marketing industry celebrating the best advertising, design and interactive work from the past year. A few years back, the Pittsburgh Advertising Federation decided to offer its talented pool of members the opportunity to create introductory videos for categories in the contest. This year will see the debut of a rap video starring a W|W co-founder along with a W|W alum (see the video here):

"The stars of the video -- James Nesbitt of North Side-based Wall-to-Wall Studios and Matt Hildebrand of Mullen, in the Strip District -- recorded the audio ahead of time and then lip-synched. That was trickier than it sounds."

Read more at the Pittsburgh Post Gazette article. Or see you tonight on the big screen.

Wall-to-Wall Studios presents at AUBER Annual Conference on Website Design Best Practices

November 30, 2012

The Association for University Business and Economic Research (AUBER) is internationally recognized by business, government, and education as the premiere professional organization dedicated to continually improving the quality, effectiveness, and application of research in business, economics, and public policy. The organization held its 2012 national conference last month in Honolulu, and invited Wall-to-Wall Studios' Mark Guillermo and Charles Ka'a Kihe to speak about Website design, development and best practices (planning, content strategy, responsive design for mobile devices, and the synergy between designers and developers).

One featured case study by Wall-to-Wall Studios was the University of Hawaii's Economic Research Organization (UHERO) website, which won the 2011 AUBER Website Design Award. An important feature of the website is the UHERO Data Portal, a free online resource that provides access to the most up-to-date information on a wide array of economic and social indicators for the Hawaii State and County economies. The AUBER Website Award honors the center whose website effectively and efficiently communicates with its constituents in terms of design, content, organization and more.

Mahalo to Lorena Akioka, University of Georgia, for moderating the discussion!

October 8, 2012

The Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh (URA) received a Gold Excellence in Economic Development Award for the Integrated Investor Prospectus and Campaign designed by Wall-to-Wall Studios from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). The world’s largest independent non-profit membership and research organization devoted exclusively to the field of economic development, the IEDC helps economic development professionals create high-quality jobs, develop vibrant communities and improve the quality of life in their regions.

"We recognize the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh for creating innovative and successful strategies to promote economic development in this period of global recovery,” said Jay Moon, IEDC chair. “Our awards honor organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in communities. The Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh demonstrates that they are at the forefront of the economic development profession and are using cutting-edge, effective practices that can be replicated in other communities."

The initiative took an unothrodox approach to a typical annual report via the creation of an "investor prospectus" with print and web/interactive components that showcase how the City of Pittsburgh has evolved through the assistance of the URA. The six foot tall yellow asterisk was fabricated by W|W using foam core, adhesive, razor blades and yellow paint.
