Wall-to-Wall Studios Creates "Arch" Exhibit Design for Pittsburgh Airport

June 17, 2014

Working with the Allegheny County Airport Authority on its Airport Art Program, Wall-to-Wall Studios created the exhibit design for Arch, a 16-foot tall sculpture by artist Glenn Kaino. This sculpture was originally commissioned by the Andy Warhol museum to celebrate the city’s 250th anniversary and it was located on the corner of Fort Duquense Boulevard and Seventh Street in Downtown, Pittsburgh. The intention of the project was to develop historical content about bridges in the Pittsburgh region, uniting the history and progression of Pittsburgh bridge engineering with contemporary sculpture. With the support of The Heinz Endowments, the Office of Public Art and other stakeholders, Arch was restored and moved to the airport along with the companion educational component designed by Wall-to-Wall Studios. The Engineers Society of Western Pennsylvania provided the important content related to area bridges that are connected to the artwork. Wall-to-Wall Studios Launches "Fix The Numbers" Integrated Campaign Supporting PA Pension Reform

June 3, 2014

Working with the Pennsylvania Municipal League, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization established in 1900 as an advocate for Pennsylvania’s 3rd class cities, Wall-to-Wall Studios designed & developed an integrated awareness campaign titled "Fix The Numbers" in support of municipal pension reform in the Commonwealth. The campaign is designed to educate and advocate for the reform of Pennsylvania’s public safety employee pensions as part of a larger goal of restoring fiscal health to the state’s municipalities.

The integrated campaign includes a series of advertisements that help illustrate the impact of of escalating municipal pension obligations on communities. Critical public services, including additions/improvements to public safety, are being held at bay because of these legacy pension obligations.

The responsively designed website (www.FixTheNumbers.com) is the hub for all campaign activity. The website uses Google Maps to plot the distressed communities with a funded ratio of assets-to-liabilities, on an accrual basis, for fire and/or police pensions, between 50-69% (moderately distressed) and below 50% (severely distressed).

W|W designed and produced an animated motion-graphic video for the campaign that provides context to how this situation has occured. It isn't politics, it isn't propaganda... it is pure math and it doesn't work anymore.

Fix the Numbers advocates for the passage of Pennsylvania H.B. 1581 because the current pension structure for public safety employees, police officers and firefighters, is unsustainable.

This initative makes sense to us. If you agree, please visit www.FixTheNumbers.com and help make a difference by sending a letter to your legislators and sharing this important message.

Wall-to-Wall Studios Designs Centennial Branding for Carnegie Mellon School of Drama

April 28, 2014

Continuing its five+ year creative collaboration with the Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama, Wall-to-Wall Studios designed the integrated branding for the school's Centennial Celebration. In addition to designing the identity system/logo and usage guide for the Centennial Celebration, W|W also helped launch the creative campaign via the design of the 2013 - 2014 School of Drama season (brochure, posters, environmental elements and more). As the School of Drama took this special celebration "on the road" to Los Angeles and New York City, new branded elements were introduced by the school, including the dimensional light boxes.

On the heels of the Centennial Celebration, the Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama has been named by the Tony Awards® as its first, exclusive higher education partner. As part of the collaboration, the two organizations will jointly create and launch the first, national recognition program to honor kindergarten through high-school (K-12) theatre educators. Wall-to-Wall Studios Designs and Develops Website for Heritage Valley Health System

April 21, 2014

Wall-to-Wall Studios designed & developed the website for Heritage Valley Health System, a $450 million integrated delivery network providing comprehensive health care for residents of Allegheny, Beaver, Butler and Lawrence counties, in Pennsylvania; eastern Ohio; and the panhandle of West Virginia. Heritage Valley offers a broad range of medical, surgical and diagnostic services at its two hospitals, Heritage Valley Sewickley and Heritage Valley Beaver; in 72 physician offices; and 14 community satellite facilities.

The website was developed using the W|W RCMS, Wall-to-Wall Studios' custom ruby on rails content management system, and integrated the use of Responsive Design to optimize the user experience for desktop/laptop, mobile devices and iPad/tablet. The Responsive Design website approach responds to the user’s behavior and environment based on screen size, platform and orientation by using a mix of flexible grids and layouts, images and an intelligent use of CSS media queries. As the user switches from their laptop to iPad, the website automatically switches to accommodate for resolution, image size and scripting abilities. Other project notes include:

- The previous website was nearly 8 years old and contained 700+ static pages that were managed & updated with Dreamweaver by one individual.

- The user-centric approach was developed by W|W using personas, user journeys and extensive competitive research ensuring that the website gets the right information to the right audience.

- The new website leverages taxonomy and tagging to create powerful relationships between doctors (and medical groups), locations and their services.

- The tagging system for news posts enable specific news stories to publish throughout the site's "related news" section.

- The Patient Activity Monitor, a 3rd party API that was integrated into the new site, uses html5 localstorage to save the user's preferences on their machine to avoid the server having to save anything.

- W|W utilized the Modernizr plugin to gracefully load-in technologies where possible and create fallbacks for older browsers.

- The web application automatically checks to determine if the site is viewed on a retina device, such that it can deliver higher quality icons throughout the site.

- Interactions are written/coded to work elegantly with a mouse as well as on a touch device (while other web applications use a different navigation for tablets).

- The web application environments are self-contained and managed by Puppet, Vagrant and Capistrano.

- The site search is powered by the open source search server Sphinx, which is a feature rich, full-text search engine.
